DECATUR — Children celebrated a summer full of reading at a party, held at the Iva Jane Peek Library in Decatur last week.
Summer reading contest winners were announced and all participants got to celebrate with ice cream sundaes. They also received a free book and a certificatefor being involved in the program.
Children kept a log of all the books they read between June 1 and July 31, which was signed by their parents. First-place winners were awarded a $20 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble.
Jetlee Xiong won first place in the 10-11 year old age category. Emily Jessenplaced first in the 8-9 year old age category and Poli Xiong placed second. Martha Smith won first place in the 6-7 year old age category, reading over 100 books in June and July. Rich Xiong placed second and Isaac Jessen placed third.
