GRAVETTE — Two juveniles were arrested after a backhoe was taken from a construction site at the highway bypass south of Hiwasse. Two boys, from the Hiwasse area, fled after the machine was stopped by Gravette officer Braxton Handle.

The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, when Handle intercepted the backhoewhich belonged to APAC, the firm involved with the highway construction project.

According to Handle, the boys, ages 15 and 17, fled into a wooded area. Officer Jeff Turner joined the chase and they were discovered about two and a half hours later hiding in the attic of a vacant house.

They were taken to Bentonville and remanded to county juvenile authorities.
