Saunders to sit on state committee

Input sought on poultry issues

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

— Bev Saunders of Colcord, Okla., was appointed to serve on the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry’s Registered Poultry Feeding Operations Rule Advisory Committee for three years.

Saunders was recommended for the post by Jim Reese, Oklahoma’s secretary of agriculture, and received the invitation to serve in a June 19 letter from J.D. Parrish, director of agricultural environmental management services in Oklahoma. She will serve until 2015.

The committee was established so that input can be received from additional sources, especially when proposed rules and statutes relating to poultry feeding operations are being considered.

In addition to her work as the executive director of the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, Saunders is director of Poultry Partners, Inc., a 400-member association and cooperative network of Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma poultry producers.

She and her husband Al own and operate a poultry growing operation in Oklahoma, not far from the Arkansas line.
