Cheerleaders win competitions

Gentry squad takes first on Saturday and again on Monday

— Gentry High School Cheerleaders are coming to the close of their competition season and have numerous wins to their credit.

The girls took first on Saturday in competition at Har-BerHigh School in Springdale and another first at home on Monday.

In addition to this month’s wins, the Gentry cheer squad took first in the Oct. 27 competition at Fayetteville High School, with Sophia Ascensio-Porter placing second in the tumbling portion.

In Siloam Springs on Nov. 17, the squad placed third, but Acensio-Porter placed first in tumbling and third in jumps.

Gentry hosted a competition on Monday, with the junior high squad competing for their first time.

The senior high girls competed in the evening and took first place once again, with Ascensio-Porter taking first in jumps and second in tumbling. Two stunt groups placed as well.

State competition for the senior high squad is set for Dec. 15 at the Hot Springs Convention Center.
