Further annexation to be considered

— The city of Gravette expects to enlarge by another 90 acres Thursday night when the Gravette City Council holds a special meeting at 6 p.m. at city hall.

The land, owned by Lawrence L. Holloway, Jr., was recently approved for voluntary annexation into Gravette by County Judge Bob Clinard.

This is the fourth annexation into the city, the first being Hiwasse and the surrounding area, including properties reaching toGravette. This involved some 6,000 acres. Properties owned by Donald Puryear and Cynthia Hingle have also been approved by the county judge for annexation.

Another item of business at the special meeting will include possible selection of a new cityattorney to replace Tom Smith who, in November, was elected to a judicial position. Smith has served as Gravette’s city attorney for several years. He recently submitted his resignation and will assume his new judicial role on Jan. 1.

The council will also openbids for a storm-water drainage project in south Gravette which has been under consideration for several months.

Following the special meeting, the council will hold its committee of the whole session as well as consider other city business.
