— The Bulldogs picked up two more wins against Oklahoma teams last week, boosting their record to 6-3.

Decatur defeated the Oaks-Mission Warriors 44-29 at a non-conference game in Oaks, Okla., last Tuesday.

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start and took a while to get going, Unger said. Nevertheless, Decatur wasleading 20-12 at half-time.

Once Decatur started scoring by making easy baskets and turned up the defensive pressure, the game took off. In the third quarter Allen Castenada and Victor Urquidi led the team to outscore the Warriors 13-4, Unger said.

“We kept the pressure on and ended up winning easily,” he said.

Sophomore Mario Urquidi scored 18 points during the game and made 12 rebounds and fourblocks. Urquidi did a good job at the free-throw line and had a good presence on offense and defense, Unger said.

Senior Andrew Harris scored seven points and made five rebounds, and senior Dakota Pitcher scored five points and made four rebounds.

As always, there is still room for improvement and the Bulldogs didn’t play as well as they can on Tuesday night, Unger said.

“Our effort is really good, our execution isn’t. That’s going to come with time. The more we practice, the better we get,” he said.

“We had Mario Urquidi,Andrew Harris and Avery Clay and they didn’t have an answer,” Unger said.

Decatur’s size forced the Engineers to attempt three-point shots that the Bulldogs easily rebounded, he said.

Decatur sophomore Mario Urquidi led the scoring with 16 points and seven rebounds, followedby senior Andrew Harris with 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs began their conference season with a home game against the Union Christian Eagles after press time on Tuesday. They will face the Hartford Hustlers in a conference game at Hartford on Dec. 21.
