Educators win national competition

— Shelly O’Dell and Meghan Walker, teachers at Gravette Middle/High School, have each been awarded a scholarship by the Arkansas State Teachers Association.

In a statewide pool of applications, both of these teachers demonstrated innovation and creativity in their submissions. The scholarships will go toward implementing new technology, improving reading materials,and purchasing math manipulatives.

ASTA is committed to offering individual educators various avenues for improving effectiveness in the classroom.

“ASTA applauds the dedication that these teachers have demonstrated in securing funding for their projects,” said ASTA executive director Michele Linch. “These scholarships and grants are an investment in empowering teachers as professionals across the state.”

ASTA’s Scholarships andGrants competition is held twice a year in the fall and spring and open to all educators. The deadline for the fall competition is March 31, 2013.
