Community Gets Behind Ball Team

To the Editor:

I have lived in Prairie Grove for 40 years. During that time I have never seen this community get behind any endeavor such as it did with the 2012 Prairie Grove Tiger football team. The entire community, it seemed, was so tightly focused on this team that little else was talked about. These boys (men really) are rightfully entitled to be proud of themselves and their accomplishments. Surely, it was a season that will be long remembered.

The coaching staft , band, cheerleaders, pep squad members, P.A. announcer and head cheerleader, Jake McBride, and many otherswho lent a hand contributed greatly to this journey and deserve our thanks. But, at bottom, it is these 60 or so young men who busted their tails from July to December, put a good wuppin’ on nine pretty good teams and three darn good teams, and in the process brought this community together who deserve our congratulations.

I confess to some prejudice as I have more than a noddin’ acquaintance with the right offensive guard.

Prairie Grove Christmas Food

Baskets Again Available

To the Editor:

The Lincoln Kiwanis Club will coordinate theannual Christmas Food Basket and Toys Program in cooperation with the Lincoln School System, churches, and other area organizations who participate in this annual event. This program was started by the Lincoln Kiwanis Club in the mid-1980s and has been a great success in past years because of the food, funds, toys and materials generously donated by many businesses in the area.

Our target of 200 families was met last year due to the generosity of the community. The Lincoln Kiwanis Club distributed food boxes and toys to 200 needy families in Lincoln and the surrounding area in December 2011.

The amount of food items in the boxes takes into consideration the number of family members. A variety of very nice toys werealso available for selection by parents for their children. This year we are once again preparing for 200 families. Our distribution date for the food boxes and toys is Friday, Dec. 21, 2012.

We take this opportunity to thank you again for your generous donations in past years. The support of the community has been a substantial factor in the success of the program and we would greatly appreciated your continued participation in 2012. We will be contacting you to follow-up about our needs and would be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Thank you in advance for your consideration in supporting our program again this year.

Sincerely,

Lynn Thomas
