New business opens in Decatur

— The Decatur Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting last week at Johnny’s Barbershop, a new business on Main Street owned by Johnny and Fran Hampton.

Johnny’s Barbershop offers haircuts and shampoos for men, women and children at very reasonable prices. The shop also offers beard trims and shaves, although those are less common nowadays, Johnny Hampton said.

Fran Hampton is biliungal; and with 15 years of experience interpreting Spanish and English in the medical and legal field, she can help Spanish speaking customers communicate exactly what they want in a haircut.

Johnny Hampton said he has been cutting hair for over 25 years and officially earned his barber’s license in 2009. However his history with the barbering profession goes back to boyhood memories at his grandfather’s barbershop.

“My grandpa was a barber when I was a boy. I remember when I was 7 or 8 years old watching mygrandpa cut hair,” he said.

Johnny Hampton is a native of Newton County, Arkansas, but the couple now resides in Bella Vista. They chose to open a shop in Decatur because of theavailablity of a building on Main Street and the need in the community, he said.

“We like the little town and we like the people. We like to treat everybodyequal and give them a good haircut,” Fran Hampton said.

Johnny’s Barbershop is located at 205 South Main Street in Decatur and accepts appointments andwalk-ins. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. For more information or to make an appointment, call 692-9555.
