— The Decatur Bulldogs celebrated their first win of the season Monday night in a nonconference game against the Oaks (Okla.) Warriors.

“I’m very proud of the boys,” said Decatur’s head basketball coach, John Unger.

During the first minutes of the game, the two teams held each other scoreless.The Warriors took an early lead at the end of the first quarter, with a score of 5-2, but it only lasted a few minutes as the Bulldogs surged ahead. By halftime the Bulldogs had a lead of 14-10 and widened the gap to a nearly 10 point lead for the rest of the game.

Unger said he wanted the team to focus on sharing the basketball and playing as a team during Monday’s game.

“Junior Avery Clay playeda great game,” he said. “He always does exactly what we ask of him,” Unger said.

“Freshman Victor Urquidi also did a great job under pressure,” he said.

Unger said he hopes the win will help instill toughness and confidence in the team.

“I’m excited for them. It’s something to grow on,” Unger said.

The Lady Bulldogs lost their game against the Warriors 26-57.
