— The Lady Bulldogs beat the Eureka Springs Highlanders 36-31 during a 4-2A conference game last Tuesday.

“They looked like a team and they played like a team,” said Decatur coach Larry Claphan.

The Lady Highlanders had a 19-12 lead at halftime, and still had a two point lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

During the last five minutes of the game, it could have gone either way, but the Lady Bulldogs passed the ball and took good shots, Claphan said.

He described the game as a great overall team effort.

“If you could say a team grew up, they really grew up as a team,” Claphan said, “As a team we’ve come a long way since mid-season.”

The junior high Lady Bulldogs also won their game against the Eureka Springs Highlanders by the wide margin of 40-13.

“They played really solid too,” Claphan said.

The junior high girls have really improved defensively and have a good momentum coming into the district tournament next week.

The Decatur senior boys team lost their game against the Highlanders 57-34.

Decatur teams face abusy schedule over the next two weeks. The senior high teams will next face County Line at home on Tuesday, after press time, followed by Mountainburg at an away gameon Friday and Colcord, Okla., next Tuesday and Hartford on Feb. 9.

“I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead. We’re getting there,” Claphan said.
