— Gravette junior Carson Pollreis hit a jump shot early in the third quarter and then blocked a Farmington shot a few minutes later.

After forcing the turnover, Pollreis dribbled to the middle of the court through two defenders before going straight to the bucket for a layup.

Pollreis, who finished with a game-high 20 points, then capped off the scoring run by hitting a 3-pointer to help give the Lions a 58-38victory over Farmington on Friday night.

“I don’t know what it is, but he always plays well against Farmington,” Gravette coach Dustin Peters said. “I wish he’d do that every game.”

Gravette (14-7, 6-3 4A-1 Conference) took a 10-point lead against the Cardinals (6-10, 3-7) at halftime and never let up in the second half.

The Lions outscored Farmington 21-9 in the third quarter and led by as much as 26 points in the fourth quarter.

Along with Pollreis’ biggame, the Lions were also paced on offense by Kyle Bilderback’s 10 points.

Gravette forward Terence Pierce goes up for a two-pointer during play against Farmington on Friday.

“We did a poor job of finishing both the first and second quarters,” Farmington coach Beau Thompson said. “We couldn’t score and they scored a bunch on us. That’s mostly our fault because we couldn’t take care of the basketball.”

Farmington, which committed 15 turnovers overall, was led by 10 points from junior Matt Brackett.

Gravette’s success started in the second quarter when it ended the half with an 11-0 run. During that stretch, sophomore Terence Pierce scored seven points, including a 3-pointer as the halftime buzzer sounded.

Peters said he told his players at halftime that they could put the game away in the first three minutes of the third quarter by staying focused.

“I wanted our guys to know that if we didn’t let up and kept scoring points, the game would virtually be over,” Peters said. “I was proud of how we came out and really executed. It takes us awhile to get going on offense, but we let our defense dictate how we play and we did a great job tonight.”
