Maysville E.H. Club meets

The Maysville E.H. Club met on Jan. 26 at the home of Orpha Wardlaw for lunch followed by the regular monthly meeting. There were 12 members, three guests and three children present.

The president called the meeting to order and Nikki Crawley welcomed our guests and invited them to join. Melinda Crawley led the group singing “Let It Snow” then gave an inspirational reading about a “Bend in the Road”.

Orpha Wardlaw gave a very interesting lesson on birds in Arkansas, showed some brochures and books about birds and commented a book on birds in Arkansas would make a very nice gift to someone who just moved to the area.

Gwen Singleton gave an eye opener about drinking water at certain times of the day to help maximize its effectiveness in the body. According to a cardiac specialist two glasses of water after waking up helps activate internal organs, one glass 30 minutes before meals helps digestion, one glass before taking a bath helps lower blood pressure and one glass before going tobed helps avoid stroke or heart attack.

Nikki Crawley demonstrated making your own custom made soap dispensers. Simply remove the stickers from the outside of the bottle then add colored objects or even laminated pictures to the inside to coordinate with your decor. She also demonstrated making elaborate candle holders by gluing items together.

Katherine Tucker read the minutes and gave the treasurer’s report. Several business items were discussed. The building needs a new roof and we are working on securing funds as it will be a major expense. New heaters are to be installed in the bathrooms as early as next week and some problems with the furnace fan require work also.

There was some discussion about how we could help with the food drive which the Baptist Church conducts the fourth Sunday of each month. We voted to visit the Children’s Shelter and will be going there in March. Our bean supper fundraiser will be April 21.

The meeting was adjourned with the benediction.
