School District voters to go to the polls on Valentine's Day

Voters will have opportunity to be heard on bond issues related to two school improvement projects.

— Voters in Gravette School District 20 will go to the polls next Tuesday in a special election to decide two major school improvement projects.

At stake is a new multiclassroom wing for the Gravette Middle School, a project that will provide space for increased enrollment and to meet state standards.

Also on the table is construction of two ball fields on the high school campus. The baseball and softball fields are parts of a project planned for thehigh school complex.

The measure on the ballot seeks to restructure and refinance existing bond issues without raising the district’s low millage rate. Additional financing will come from funds saved for the projects by the district and for a one-time million dollar state tax refund.

Since no increase in taxes will be required, the district millage rate will remain at 37.2 mills, the lowest of any Benton County school.

Voting on Valentine’s Day will be from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following polling sites: Gravette Civic Center, Highlands Church in Bella Vista, Sulphur Springs Community Building and the Hiwasse Fire Station.

Early voters may cast ballots at the County Clerk’s office in Bentonville through Feb. 13. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. week days.
