Gravette city billing changes take effect

— Gravette water-sewer customers are being reminded of a service billing ordinance which sets meter reading dates, payment dates and also penalties for nonpayment of bills by due date.

The ordinance, No. 11-16, was approved by the council on Nov. 16. A report in the Nov. 23 issue of the Eagle Observer briefly outlined the 10-section, three-page document.

The entire ordinance was not published in the Eagle Observer until this week. It appears on the classified page under the “legal” heading.

The city advises water customers to read and become familiar with the new penalty for late payment of bills which has been increased to 20 percent from the previous 10 percent. Water deposits and reconnection fees are also listed and situations are noted, as well as how extraordinary situations will be handled. Some of the above information was included with the January bills.

The new ordinance was adopted because of the number of late payments and nonpayments of bills, as well as a returned check policy.
