OPINION? EVERYBODY HAS ONE

I think from now on I'll answer my cell phone

Did you ever lose anything and even if you look where you remember putting it, it isn’t there?

I felt that this morning when I went out to feed the cow and calf in the barn. They were not there and I know that is where I put them!

The grain was gone that I had faithfully poured into the feed trough and then I saw the gate standing a little crooked and off the hinge at the bottom. Dang ol’ cow!

She doesn’t have a lick of sense or she would have stayed put and had grain again this morning. And that reminds me of teenagers, wanting to run and not thinking about where supper is gonna be.

The cow and calf didn’t go very far because I had the gate closed to the trap. And before I got finished feeding the sick pen and Snip, she was bawling at the barn. I thought about leaving the gate messed up and pouring in the feed real slow so it would make lots of noise and see if she could figure out how to get back in, but I didn’t. Dog kept her back while I replaced the gate on its hinge and the calf was having fun bucking and snorting at Dog.

I was cold; the front andits wind had descended upon my outfit and my hands were miserable.

I finally got to the truck and found my gloves, but they were stiff and pretty cold themselves. I get a little off center when I get so cold and maybe even a dab cranky. I got the heater going and was about to get warm when my cell phone announced a call.

I have this cell thing so my close relative can get hold of me any time she thinks it necessary. Why a grown man, sorta-smart man, making-a-living man, would ever agree to being tied to a wireless contraption, I will never know. Here I was, free and doing my job, taking care of business and a call comes to me while I am in my truck. My truck, does that sound like a place a feller would want to be disturbed?

I sat in my truck, thinking of things long enough for the phone to stop ringing. I was glad because I was just irritated enough to be slightly crusty if I answered. Now, if it was a real important call, not just a request for me to fill up the bird feeders, I knew she would be calling again.

My close relative is a dependable and wonder

ful partner. She does

what she wants and can

handle about anything.

Throwing caution to

the wind is what I did

when I did not answer

that call, just drove out

the back way and went

on about my pea picking and rat killing. The call did not repeat and I sorta forgot about it until I went in for lunch.

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, I will be able to answer the cell phone while driving, plowing, breaking horses, fighting bulls and running from a tornado in the future. It will never cross my simple mind to not pick up the phone, press the button and say hello. Freedom is sometimes not worth the beating! I can’t say any more about the ordeal, but you can bet I didn’t enjoy it.
