Springtown council debates bridge project on Flint Creek

— The Springtown Town Council met in regular session Dec. 13 following the second public hearing for the Flint Creek Bridge Project which was held at 6 p.m.

Several town residents were present along with city officials, city attorney Carla Wasson and Mayor Paul Lemke.

Clerk Jan Cox provided copies of year-to-date cash flow information. Mayor Lemke gave the street department report which included filling potholes and cleaning gutters. Alderman Amanda Richardson was directed to purchase five bags of salt for winter use.

Old business items included the Flint Creek bridge project with form expected the following day so work could begin.

Benton County Emergency Management is working on a system to activate storm sirens by radio.

One price quote for construction of a pavilion in the park has been received by Richardson, who said she plans to order a flag for the park. No news was reported on a Town Hall grant.

Wasson reported on how to handle millage increases but the item has been deleted pending further information.

A resolution to pass the 2012 budget was unanimously approved.

The mayor reported Deffenbaugh Industries, waste pick-up provider, requested a 6 percent increase as authorized by the contract. Voting to approve the request were aldermen Chuck Guess, Amanda Richardson, Lisa Lawrence and Kay Taylor. Opposed was Marvin Riley.

Lemke reported he is waiting to hear from Benton County Solid Waste District for a recycle trailer. If this does not work out a recycle bin will be provided by Deffenbaugh.

A request from a town resident for closure of an alleyway has been referred to the city attorney for placement on the next council meeting agenda.
