— One good quarter wasn’t enough for Gentry as the Lady Pioneers lost 68-33 to Prairie Grove in a varsity girls’ basketball contest on Friday.

After a slow start, Gentry came back from a 17-4 first-quarter deficit to outscore the Lady Tigers, 14-11, in the secondquarter. Destiny Thomas took a pass from thehigh-post and scored on the baseline to close the gap to 20-8 with 5:12 left in the half.

In the last 2:16 Shelby Hammond scored inside and Thomas knocked down a three-pointer sandwiched around Michelle Lumsargis’ trey for Prairie Grove. Abby Smith hit a pull-up jumper just before the horn or Gentry’s positive margin would have been even more in the quarter.

Prairie Grove put the game away in the third, outscoring Gentry 30-9. Tara Arnold picked up the first field-goal for the Lady Pioneers in the thirdquarter at the 5:16 mark, scoring a left-handed lay-up versus the Prairie Grove full-court press. By then, Prairie Grove had surged to a 43-20 lead and rolled to a 68-33 win.

Thomas was the top scorer for Gentry with eight points.
