Pioneers pick up big win

— The Lady Pioneers picked up a big win over Berryville on Jan. 13, coming out on top in the away game, 53-41.

Gentry jumped ahead in the first quarter and was up 28-21 at the half, led by the scoring of junior Tara Arnold, who picked up a whopping 23 points in the game.

Though the Berryville Lady Bobcats attempted to come back in the second half, the Lady Pioneers steadily built their lead to seal the victory.

Shelby Hammond and Destiny Thomas each picked up 10 points in the game. Hannah Bond added another six. Kaylin Cripps made two out of three field goal attempts to add another four.

Arnold also led with rebounds, picking off 10, seven of those on the Berryville side. Hammond had six, and Cripps five.

The Gentry girls also grabbed a victory over Ozark on Jan. 10, defeating them in a hard-fought match, 46-44.

Though the Lady Pioneers held the lead for much of the game, things became tense in the final quarter with Ozark close behind and even tying the game in the final minutes.The Lady Pioneers regained the lead with good shooting at the free-throw line and held on for the victory.

Arnold led the Ladies with 20 points. Thomas added 13.

The girls lost their game against Shiloh Christian on Jan. 9, by a score of 58-46.

BOYS

Berryville 50, Gentry 33

In boys action, the Pioneers were unable to handle the Bobcats and Berryville’s strong defense kept Gentry away from the basket. The final score was 50-33 in favor of Berryville.
