Gentry police investigating suspected home rent scam

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

— The Gentry Police Department is searching for two people they believe were involved in a housing rental scam, according to a news release from police officials.

Authorities said Betty Andrews, a local businesswoman, reported she was checking on property she and her husband were buying when she found aman sitting on the front porch with $700.

The man told Andrews he found a rental listing for the home on Craigslist.

Police said, while Andrews was at the house, two people pulled up claiming to be working for a woman named Sara Smith.

A woman, who identified herself as Sandra Lossellyoung, arrived with a man and gave Andrews aphone number for herself and for Smith, according to police.

Officers said they have been unable to trace either number and believe the incident was part of a scam.

Police said renters should be cautious. Anyone with information about the two involved in Monday’s incident should call Gentry Police at 736-8400.
