LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Denied opportunity to address school board

— Editor,

On Monday night, July 16, at 7 p.m., my wife Jessica and I attended a school board meeting in Decatur concerning a transfer of our daughter Lyndsey to the Gentry School District because our son already attends the Gentry School. The board had a total of four or five transfers to vote on. When the board came upon our transfer paper, we wantedto speak and represent our case; so my wife Jessica raised her hand and asked to speak. It was quickly voted that there were no comments or discussions to be made. It was very cut and dry. They had also denied the transfer of our daughter to go to the Gentry school with her brother. So, now, we have one child in Gentry and the other is to attend Decatur. Having a specialneeds child, I think they should have let us speak on behalf of our child. As very concerned parents, that was the reason for attending the meeting. The purpose of this letter is just to say we thought it was not right the way the meeting went. We want people to know this. As concerned parents, we’re not happy of the outcome.
