School Choice transfers approved by Gravette School Board

— Textbook purchases, approving school choice transfers and okaying two alternatives for construction projects occupied the Gravette School Board at its regular meeting Monday night, July 16.

The purchase of almost 600 Math in Focus textbooks for students in grades three through six cost $83,137, according to board minutes. This involves 145 books for each of the four grades.

Also approved was a $30,788 expenditure for Prentice Hall Literature Common Core Edition textbooks to supplement the Common Core English/Literature Arts standards for Gravette Middle School. The purchase includes 120 books for grades six and eight and 140 for grade seven.

The alternatives for construction projects included an additional $11,306 for lighting for the new ball fields on the high school campus and $13,993 forconstruction of a courtyard behind the Middle School new addition. Both projects are in progress.

The board approved School Choice applications from 10 students, nine from Bentonville and one from Decatur. Earlier, the board had approved nine Bentonville applications.

Also approved were an athletic participation package, a detailed budget for the upcoming fiscal year and authorization for the superintendent to approve change orders. The boardalso sold two old school buses. One bus was purchased by Heritage Baptist Church for $3,050, the other by Trinity Christian Academy for $3,100.

The board also approved offering a contract to Sharla Heltzer as special education director.

Before the business agenda, the board heard a report from Angie Scott, whose HOSA students completed another successful year in state and national competition. Several other routine reports were also received.
