Maysville E.H Club met May 24th

— The Maysville E. H. Club met at the community center May 24 for the regular meeting and lunch hosted by Bert Ballmann.

President Orpha Wardlaw called the meeting to order and welcomed our guest. Melinda Crawley led the group in singing “Strolling Through the Park.” Gwen Singleton and Bert Ballmann each shared a short inspirational thought.

Bert gave two eye openers. The first was to chill angel food cake for easier slicing. Another was that Borax and warm water solution is good for cleaning old dishes that have turned yellow. She also gave a cultural arts demonstration, filled old jars with various items such as thread spools, lace or flowers for home decor.

The lesson topic for May was home health choices. Bert was the lesson leader and asked Myra Ahrens to be our guest speaker. Myra is the discharge planner for Ozark Community Hospital of Gravette. She shared with the group that about 70 percent of the population will need skilled nursing care at some point in their life. There are many services available, but many peopleare not aware of them. Some of the services she talked about are services for veterans, Elder Choices, Senior Hunger Coalition, Faith in Action, Adult Day Care, Courtesy Van, Schmieding Center for Senior Education and free health screenings. She gave everyone handouts and a Senior Service Directory put out by the Schmieding Center. It was a very informative lesson.

Reports were given on the Tucker sale, County Council meeting and Short History Book. The community yard sale was held June 2 and the club served sloppy joes, ham sandwiches and drinks. Thanks to Walmart for the donation for the food. The county has asked each club to do something in celebration of E.H. Club’s 100th birthday, so we also served free cake to the public in conjunction with the yard sale.

Saving Grace is a program to help girls who are no longer in foster care. We gave paper products for them.
