Wheat shocked old way at Logan farm

— Ten members of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks met at the Charlie Lacey Farm in the Logan Community to cut wheat the old fashion way on the afternoon of June 5.

“It has been 50 years since some of us rode the binder and shocked wheat,” said club member Don Hevener. “It wasmost enjoyable as you can imagine.”

“The wheat will remain in the field in shocks until about the third week in August,” said club member Glenn Smith. “Then we will load it on a wagon and it will be stored on the wagon in a barn. It will be moved to the Tired Iron show grounds for our fall show in September for a threshing demonstration,” Smith said.

The threshing machine which will be used for the threshing demonstration belongs to Charlie Lacey.

“Charlie will be 76 in July and has been doing all the work by himself for years,” Smith said. “I thought it was time we helped him.”

The fall antique engine and tractor show will be held Sept. 7-9 at the club’s show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road, just southwest of Gentry.
