Harwood benefit to be held at fire station

— Gentry Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a benefit supper for volunteer firefighter David Harwood, who is fighting colon cancer and scheduled for surgery in early July.

Harwood was a Siloam Springs firefighter and is on the Gentry Volunteer Fire Department. He is currently unable to work and is without medical insurance.

The benefit will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, at the Gentry Fire Department.

The dinner, for $5, will include a hot dog, chicken, chips and a drink.

A raffle and an auction will also be held. The raffle will continue through the July 4 Freedom Festival. The auction will be held on the evening of June 30. A number of items and pies will be auctioned, but other items may yet be donated.

The evening will include pump-truck demonstrations on the end of Bever Lane, which will also serve to wet down the area prior to the fireworks display on July 4. Children will also be given the opportunity to operate the fire hoses and “put out” a mock fire.

Photos for children on the fire trucks will be offered, too, as a way to raise money for Harwood.

An account for donations is being set up at Arvest Bank, and contributions may be made to the David Harwood benefit account at the bank.

More information on the benefit and ways to contribute are available by emailing [email protected] or by calling Mike Rabb at 644-2932.
