Students earn university honors and scholarships

— Following is a list of area students who have earned college honors or scholarships.

Ouachita Baptist University

Ouachita Baptist University at Arkadelphia, announced that Eathen Ramsey of Decatur and Kelsey Gourd of Centerton have been named to the president's list for the spring semester.

Students must maintain a 4.0 grade point average to achieve recognition on this prestigious list.

Northeastern State University

Kelsey Duncan of Gentry was named to the president's honor roll at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla. for the spring 2012 semester.

To be eligible for the president's honor roll, students must complete at least 12 hours of undergraduate classes with a 4.0 grade-point average.

Brittany Dewitt of Gravette was named to the dean's honor roll at NSU for the spring 2012 semester.

To be eligible for the dean's honor roll, students must complete at least 12 hours of undergraduate classes with a grade-point average of 3.5 and no grades below a B.

University of Arkansas

Amy Moua of Gravette was awarded a John H. and Jane W. Donaldson Endowed Memorial Scholarship from the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas.

Moua is a graduate student with a childhood education major and plans to graduate in May 2013. She is the daughter of Thomas and Yer Yang Moua of Summers and a graduate of Siloam Springs High School. She is married to Meng Lee.

Scholarship winners will be honored at a luncheon on campus during the fall 2012 semester.

Arkansas Tech University

Arkansas Tech University announced that Austin Kyle Smithers, a 2012 graduate of Gravette High School, has been awarded a Distinguished Scholars Award to attend the university in Russellville. He is the son of John and Mary Smithers of Gravette. Among his awards was first place at state HOSA competition in 2010 and 2011 and second place in 2012. He is also the recipient of HOSA and academic scholarship awards.

Makalyn Hurtt, of Hiwasse, received a Collegiate Scholars Award from Arkansas Tech University, beginning with the fall 2012 semester.

Makalyn is the daughter of Joey and Kimberly Hurttand was a 2012 graduate of Gravette High School, where she received honors in health science technology and consumer sciences.

Missouri Southern State University

Missouri Southern State University at Joplin, Mo., announced the following area students were named to the spring semester dean’s list:

Donna Carrell, Kimberley Gibson, Cody Montee and Shelby Newell, all of Gravette; Kahleif Steele from Sulphur Springs; and Whitney Gashell from Gentry.

Students must achieve a 3.75 grade point average on 12 hours or more to achieve recognition.

Gravette resident Amy Roberts is among more than 1,000 Harding University students included on the dean's list for grades achieved during the spring semester.

The dean’s list honors those who have achieved high scholarship each semester. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade point average.
