Legion hall demolished

Piece of Gentry's history comes to an end

— A part of Gentry’s history was demolished and removed last week due to the close of the local American Legion post and due to the deterioration of the building once used as a Legion hall.

The building in Gentry’s Main Street ball park was donated to the city after the Legion post closed a number of years ago. A recent attempt to revitalize the post failed due to lack of interest.

The building, which was being used as storage, had extensive termite damage in the ceiling and roof, had damaged windows and doors and was determined to be beyond repair at a reasonable cost.

Because of a potential risk to children playing in the park, it was demolished and removed, leaving the site of the building scraped clean.
