Show to give gym facelift

Youth fashion show to benefit Gentry's Carl Gym

— A local youth spring fashion show is set for 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 10, at the Gentry High School Auditorium. Proceeds from the show, entitled “Splash of Fashion,” will go for improvements to the Carl Gym.

The Carl Gym is used as a practice gym for the school district and as a second gym for many sporting events and school activities. In addition, the gym is used for Gentry Youth Organization sports and numerous other school and community events.

The gym was a gift to the school district from Mr. and Mrs. R. H. “Bob” Carl and was built and dedicated in 1954. Dedication ceremonies were on Nov. 4, according to “Gentry Arkansas: 100 Years and Beyond,” which was published for Gentry’s centennial celebration.

The floor was recently refinished, the ceiling repaired and lighting was upgraded but other improvements are still needed, according to April Hendren, coordinator for the fundraising event. Among items on the list for improvements is padding under the basketball goals and work to improve the restrooms.

The show will feature local students from Gentry Schools - primary through high school. Clothing is being provided for the show by Stage and Maurices.

Hendren is encouraging Gentry residents to come out and support local youth by attending the fashion show and helping raise money for the gym improvements.

Tickets to the fashion show - $2 in advance and $3 on the night of the show- will be available at the door.

“Come join us for an evening of fashion, fun and a silent auction,” Hendren said.
