Band students compete

— Fourteen Decatur band students received a “I” or “II” rating at the Region 7 Solo and Ensemble Contest at West Fork High School on March 9.

Students prepared a solo, duet, trio or quartet for the competition to be performed for a judge, who then gave the performance a rating, band director Kristen Wages said.

A “I” rating is the highest score possible, followed by a “II,” and students who earned “I” and “II” ratings were awarded medals.

“I am delighted that our scores reflect the hard work these students have put into their practice,” Wages said.

Decatur students who received a “I” or “II” rating were:

Alisun Watson - flute

Ger Vang - flute

Maritza Monterrosa - flute

Lensey Watson - flute

Jacqueline Herrera - clarinet

Isabel Rodriguez - clarinet

Mailee Xiong - alto saxophone

Ryan Shaffer - alto saxophone

Kallisto Gonzalez - trumpet

Dawson Fenner - trumpet

Jafett Puga - trombone

Timothy Skaggs - trombone

Students who placed in the solo competition are: Lensey Watson, Mailee Xiong, Ger Vang and Jordan Davis.
