King resigns post at Decatur High

— Decatur High School Principal Bobby King has submitted a letter of resignation, superintendent Larry Ben said on Friday.

King has served as Decatur High School principal and athletic director for the past five years, as well as serving as interim superintendent while theschool was in financial crisis during the summer of 2008.

King’s resignation will not be formal until it has been accepted by the school board at next Monday’s meeting, Ben said. The school has already posted a notice for the job ofhigh school principal dated March 9.

“It’s been a wonderful five years. I put in a lot of work to keep the school going. It saddens me to have to move on,but I think it’s just time to move on,” King said on Monday.

King said the teachers that he has worked with have done a wonderful job and the community support for the school is phenomenal.

“I wish the best for Decatur Schools in the future,” he said.

Ben said that it is his goal to interview applicants for high school principal on April 14 and, if all goes well, he hopes to hire a new principal at the April 16 school board meeting.
