Pioneers win two, lose one

— The Pioneer baseball squad picked up big wins last Tuesday and Wednesday but fell hard on Thursday.

The Pioneers came back from a 3-0 deficit in the third on March 13 to a tie against Booneville and then added another three runs in the fourth to take the lead. Booneville put another runner across the plate in the seventh, but Gentry hung on to win the game 6-4.

Josh Sewell led the Pioneers in batting with two hits and two RBIs. Nelson Watson and Chris Wiand pitched in the game, with the victory credited to Wiand.

Gentry 14 Ozark 13

The Pioneers jumped ahead to an early lead against the Hillbillies on Ozark’s field on Wednesday, but Ozark tied it at three apiece in the third. Gentry jumped ahead in the fourth, being up by one at 7-6, but Ozark scored four in the fifth.

In the following inning, Gentry answered to tie the game at 10 each, making the final inning a nail-biter for fans on both sides. The Pioneers took a commanding lead, with four crossing theplate, but the Hillbillies didn’t give up. They came back with three but were stopped short of a tie. The game final was 14-13, Gentry.

Watson and Tanner Coy led the Pioneers with the bat, with three hits each. Kolby Rankin, Jordon Cousins and Josh Sewell each had two. Cousins had three RBIs and hit a double and a triple in the game. Coy and Sewell had two RBIs each.

On the mound for the Pioneers were Watson, Coy, Sewell, Tristan Glass and Dusty Haag. The win was credited to Coy.

Farmington 9 Gentry 2

After two big wins, Thursday was a disappointment for the Pioneers when they faced the Farmington Cardinals.

The game was Farmington’s all the way, with Gentry picking up solo runs in the fourth and seventh to lose 9-2.

Watson and Wiand each had two hits, Coy picked up one.

Garrett Roberts started on the mound and picked up a loss. Coy and Sewell each took turns pitching as well.

The Pioneers (4-4) are scheduled to face the Cardinals (6-2) again on March 27 in a home game scheduled for 5 p.m.
