Gentry girls off to strong start

Lady Pioneers soccer team leaves for spring break with 4-3 record

— Gentry girls’ soccer team is nearing the halfway point in their game schedule and have picked up a number of victories and much experience.

The girls played Siloam Springs on Feb. 21 and lost by one, with Ana Palacios kicking in Gentry’s only goal in the 2-1 game.

Kanisha Eckart scored Gentry’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to Rogers-Heritage on the Feb. 28.

The girls defeated Decatur 4-0 on March 2, with two goals each by Palaciao and Bryanna Carter.

On March 8, the Lady Pioneers lost 4-1 to Shiloh Christian, with Palacios again picking up a goal for Gentry.

On March 12, the girls traveled to play Commerce and soundly defeated their opponents, 5-0. Ana Palacios scored three times, Bryanna Carter once, and Commerce accidentally put one in their own goal for an added Gentry point.

Gentry played at home against Bergman on March 13, and scored eight goals while holding Bergman scoreless. Goals were scored by Ana Palacios, 3; Bryanna Carter, 2; Hannah Bond, 2; and Kanisha Eckart, 1.

Before spring break, the girls defeated Huntsville 1-0, with Carter scoring Gentry’s goal on a pass from Bond.

The team went on spring break with a 4-3 record. Palacios had 10 goals in the season.

The girls were scheduled to play at Springdale on Tuesday, after press time.

No scores were yet available for the boys’ team at press time.
