Pioneers win one, drop two

Team plays in state competition on Thursday

— The Pioneer baseball team beat Clarksville in regional play but then lost to Prairie Grove and Pea Ridge.

Gentry came from behind, with a two-run deficit, to tie the game in the sixth and take a three-run lead in the eighth to pick up its 7-4 victory over Clarksville in regional play on Friday. Chris Wiand, Kolby Rankin, Josh Sewell and Dusty Haagall picked up doubles in the game, with Rankin, Sewell, Tristan Glass and Dusty Haag all picking up RBIs in the game.

Chris Wiand started on the mound. He was relieved by winning pitcher Tanner Coy. Wiand struck out five and Coy, eight in the contest.

On Saturday, the Pioneers faced the Prairie Grove Tigers, but lost 13-3 after five innings of play.

The Tigers jumped to a 6-0 lead in the second, and added to that leadin the forth and fifth innings, even though Gentry scored one and then two, respectively.

Gentry had seven hits in the game, one of them a double by Tanner Coy. Coy and Haag picked up the only RBIs for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers lost again Monday to Pea Ridge, 2-1, in their final game at the regional tournament in Harrison. They next play at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Harrison at the state tournament.
