Poker run draws crowd of supporters

— The Third Annual Wyatt Hopkins Memorial Poker Run, sponsored by the Decatur Fire Department, drew the largest crowd of supporters yet.

There were more than 118 motorcycles, plus many more riders and family members, at Saturday's event held at the Decatur Fire Station and Community Building.

The Decatur Fire Department holds the poker run each year to raise money for the Arkansas Children's Hospital in honor of Wyatt Hopkins, who was the son and grandson of Decatur firefighters.

Riders followed a 127-mile route that woundthrough Arkansas and Oklahoma before returning to a barbecue beef dinner and entertainment by musicians Matt Davis and Colt Smith.

"We appreciate everybody that showed up and road in the poker run. We count it as a big success," said Decatur Fire Chief David Flynt.

Christian Wise wonthe prize for the highest poker hand, and Randolph Johnson won the prize for the lowest hand.

David Holcombe of Maysville won the raffle for the 2008 Yamaha V-star 650 Classic motorcyle.

The event will continue to be held every year on the first Saturday in May.
