Training to be held in Gentry

Winrock International selects Gentry to be site of Arkansas Rural Development conference.

— Gentry has been selected as the site for an Arkansas Rural Development conference and training by Winrock international.

The two-day conference, to be held on June 4 and 5, will be hosted by the city of Gentry, Winrock International, the USDA and the Gentry Chamber of Commerce. About 30 visitors from across the state of Arkansas will be in town for tours and workshops.

“We are very excited to be selected to host this conference,” said Bev Saunders, director ofthe Gentry Chamber of Commerce. "We have visited other towns over the past five years, and now we're happy these folks are coming to see us."

With the dates just a month away, Saunders is asking everyone in Gentry to clean up lawns, lots, ditches, and around signs and road ways.

“If your group cleans the highway right of ways, please consider doing that this month,” she said.

Saunders is also encouraging all residents and business owners to clean around empty buildings and help keep the city properties, Main Street and Highways 12 and 59 in good condition.

“I’m always proud to show Gentry off. This group will be touring the entire town, including the parks. I want them to leave with a great impression of our town and our citizens,” Saunders said.
