Gentry police join traffic campaign

— Police officers in Gentry plan to join the “Click It or Ticket” and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign in an effort to educate the public and crack down on traffic violations such as not wearing seat belts or using childsafety restraints and not wearing motorcycle helmets when required, as well as being on the lookout for those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Dates for the campaign run from May 21 through June 3, and police officers will be out in force during selected time periods watching for offenses and writing tickets.

“During this period, we will be focusing on motorist violations for safety belts,child-passenger restraints, speeding, motorcycle helmets, dwi/dui, drug use and possession, uninsured motorists, suspended or revoked licenses, among other violations,” said Gentry Police Chief Keith Smith.

“We will utilize saturation and fixed patrols, enforcement zones and check points,” Smith said. “Officers will have a zero-tolerancelevel for any of the abovementioned violations during this period to help bring more awareness to the dangers of [these] violations.”
