Memorial Day Services planned in Gravette

— Gravette’s Memorial Day service at Hillcrest Cemetery will be Monday, May 28, at 10 a.m., according to the Gravette American Legion Post, which sponsors the annual event.

The program honors and remembers those who have sacrificed their lives and have given service in defense of our nation, said J. R. Gibbs, American Legion Post Adjutant.

David Shields, an excombat Marine and a 1997 graduate of Gravette High School, will be keynote speaker.

The Gravette High School Band, directed by Mike Johnson, will play patriotic music, including The National Anthem; and Matt and Cole Reeves of Gravette will provide vocal patriotic selections. Members of Gravette’s Girl Scout Troop 5427 will serve as Color Guard during the program.

Members of the highschool band will play a haunting rendition of “Taps” to conclude the program.

In case of rain, the program will be moved to the Gravette Civic Center.

Post Adjutant Gibbs said the Avenue of Flags in the cemetery will be raised at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 26. They fly continuously until being lowered at 5 p.m. on Monday. Volunteer help is always welcome during the raising and lowering of the Colors, he said.
