Watson strives for achievement

— Striving for high achievement is nothing new to Decatur senior Lensey Watson, so it’s no surprise that she earned the title of valedictorian of the Decatur High School Class of 2012.

Watson has a 3.8 grade point average for her high school career and a 4.0 for her senior year.

Her school activities vary widely, from music to agriculture. Watson plays the flute in the school band and recently earned a scholarship to play the piccolo in the Arkansas Razorback Marching Band. She also earned a spot in the National FFA Band last year.

Watson is the presidentof the Decatur 4-H Club, the vice-president of the school’s FBLA club, and a member of the Student Congress and Academic Challenge in Education team.

Outside of school, Watson enjoys spending time with her sheep and horses, although she is quick to point out that those interests tie in closely with her FFA activities.

In addition to her band scholarship, Watson said she has received a number of animal science, FFA and 4-H scholarships.

She is planning to attend the University of Arkansas and major in animal science, with a pre-medicine option. She plans to continue on and go into orthopedics and sports medicine.
