Storm spotter class offered on Monday

— With the real possibility that severe weather and even tornados could occur at any time of the year, as evidenced by the nearby Cincinnati tornado on New Year’s Eve two years ago, the Gentry Police Department will be hosting weather spotter training at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Gentry City Council chambers.

Meteorologist Ed Calianese, of the National Weather Service in Tulsa,Okla., will be the presenter of the free, certified course again this year. The training he will provide is designed to help individuals and spotter groups recognize tornadoes and understand storm structures and threats.

While the training is specifically designed to assist police and fire departments and storm spotter groups in their storm-watching duties, the general public is invited to attend, as well.

For more information, call the Gentry Police Department at 736-8400.
