Board approves paving transportation road

— At its most recent meeting, the Gravette School Board authorized requesting bids for several projects and approved by a split vote a bid to pave the road to the transportation building.

Hutchens Construction Co., of Springdale, was awarded the road construction bid, which also includes paving the road to the new ball fields and stadium and the transportation complex parking lot. Total bid price was $108,772.50.

After lengthy discussion, voting for the project were board members Dan Alsup, Jim Singleton,Dan Yates and Jay Oliphant. Opposed were board members John Edwards, Jack Skillett and Susan Santos.

The transportation road has been unpaved since that department moved to its location at the new high school complex in 2006.

Authorization was approved to seek bids for new school buses, softball and baseball field supplies and equipment and scoreboards for the two fields. The action was unanimous.

Authorization to request bids for a fiber optic line was approved 6-1 with Dan Yates as the lone dissenter.

The board also approved a reimbursement resolution to issue $1,500,000 in second lien bonds to finance some of the current middle school and ball field projects. The resolution is considered a legal formality. The bonds will be reimbursed from proceeds.

The district is advancing its own funds to pay up to $1,400,000 of costs of the above projects and to reimburse itself by the issuance of the bonds for a capital expenditure. The resolution documents compliance with applicable Treasury regulations.

No executive session was necessary, and the board meeting adjourned shortly after 8:30.
