— The Bulldogs continued their winning streak, beating Haas Hall Academy 43-38 in a non-conference game last week Tuesday.

Decatur got off to a good start, ending the first quarter ahead 13-6. But the Bulldogs made some key turnovers that let Haas Hall back in the game during the second quarter, for a half-time score of 21-18 Decatur, said John Unger, Decatur basketball coach and athletic director.

Haas Hall Academy pulled slightly ahead in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs came back for a win in the fourth.

“We came back from a deficit. We were not shooting well and made some mistakes and we came back. That says a lot,” Unger said.

Sophomore Mario Urquidi led in scoring with 14 points, 16 rebounds and three blocked shots. His twin brother Victor Urquidi scored nine points and made nine rebounds and had three steals.

Senior Andrew Harris also scored nine and made seven rebounds. Senior Avery Clay made some big plays and Allen Castanada had a great game, making three free throws to seal the game, Unger said.

“Trey Kell made some huge plays defensivelyand brings a lot of energy,” Unger said.

“Everybody we put in the game contributed,” Unger said. Last year when substitutes were put in, the team began to drop; this year that doesn’t happen, he said.

While Haas Hall Academy, a Fayetteville charter school, is in the 1A conference this year, they will be jumping straight to the 3Aconference next year, Unger said.

“They were big and quick and very comparable to our conference,” he said.

The Bulldogs will face the Kingston Yellow Jackets, with a 0-5 record, at home this Friday. They will play in the Adair, Okla. tournament next week.

“That will be the real test,” Unger said.
