Girls win big at home

— The Lady Bulldogs defeated Haas Hall Academy last Tuesday night in a non-conference home game.

“It was good to win one at home,” said Decatur coach Bill Niven.

The Bulldogs took an early lead in the game, ending the first quarter with a score of 5-0. Both teams scored eight points during the second quarter for a half-time score of 13-8. Then Decatur surged ahead and outscored Haas Hall Academy by eight points in the third quarterand five points in the fourth quarter.

Decatur’s Sarah Harris was the lead scorer in the game, with 13 points and five rebounds, followed by Brittany Frost with nine points.

Rachel Maddox and Shelby Freitas both scored six points for Haas Hall Academy. Maddox made 10 rebounds and Freitas made five.

“Defensively, I thought we played hard and were effective. Any time you hold a team to 18 points and 18 percent shooting percentage, you have to be pleased. We out reboundedHaas Hall 30 to 17 and that’s good,” Niven said.

“Offensively, we simply need to get a whole lot better. Twenty-nine percent field goal percentage and 50 percent free throw percentage won’t win a lot of games,” Niven said. “We miss a ton of shots around the basket and we have got to finish around the basket. I thought we did a better job of handling pressure, but we still turn the ball over too much.”

The Lady Bulldogs will face the Kingston Yellow Jackets, with a 2-2 record, at a non-conference home game this Friday.
