— Meghan Walker, English as a Second Language coordinator for Gravette school district for three years, recently coordinated a “Multicultural Potluck Dinner” which brought together families of children from several cultures.

Held at the Middle School cafeteria, it also served to introduce other faculty members and citizens to ESL.

Walker and her aide, Leta Witt, served more than 75 students in the school in the ESLprogram. It involves students with Spanish, Hmong and Micronesian languages as they become more fluent in English.

The program brings together families of the students throughout the year at meetings, home visits and quarterly lunches. The potluck was to celebrate cultures around the world and also cultures in the community.

Walker was born to missionary parents in Zambia in Southern Africa. She attended an elementary British school in that nation and an American high school in Kenya. She is a graduate of John Brown University.

Besides the wide variety of international cuisine from those attending, all enjoyed viewing creative displays by district students.
