Wednesday, November 28, 2012

— A 50-year-old man was dropped three stories when the elevator in which he was riding at the Simmons Feed Mill in Decatur failed Friday morning.

The fall victim was an employee of Simmons Foods, according to Decatur Fire Chief David Flynt. The man sustained multiple injuries and was transported to the hospital by Air Evac, he said.

Flynt said it was his understanding the elevator cable broke. Flynt also said he didn’t know any more details about the accident, such as the man’s name or to which hospital he had been taken.

Decatur Police Chief Terry Luker said his department did not write a report on the accident because it was a civil matter and no foul play was suspected.

Simmons Foods did not release any information about the accident by press time.
