Bulldogs chew up Mustang JV team

— The Bulldogs defeated the Mc-Donald County Mustangs’ junior varsity team 48-0 during a non-conference game on Thursday.

The win gives the Bulldogs a record of 3-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Sophomore Victor Urquidi ran for a touchdown and then returned an interception for another score. Senior Evan Owens also made two rushing touchdowns during the game.

Sophomore Terry Kell, sophomore Allen Castaneda and senior Samuel Xiong all scored touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

The team played pretty well no matter who the backs were, according to head coach Shane Holland.

“That’s a tribute to our offensive line - Elijah McIver, Dakota Pitcher, Dalton Ward, Matt Lee, Avery Clay and Andrew Harris. They have gotten better every week,” Holland said.

The Bulldogs had four interceptions and six turnovers. Harris made two of the interceptions for the second week in a row. The athletic senior didn’t know much about football when he came to Decatur last year but has come a long way, Holland said.

“Moving him to safety has been good for us,” he said.

The Bulldogs will face the Western Yell County Wolverines, with a 0-6 record, for their homecoming game on Friday. Homecoming ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the game at 7:30 p.m.
