Decatur teacher retires

— Kim Browning celebrated her retirement last week after 29 years of teaching in the Decatur School District.

Browning graduated from Decatur High School and from the University of Arkansas before returning to serve Decatur as a teacher. She has taught middle school - mostly sixth grade - for the duration of her career.

“I’ve had some really good kids and enjoyed working with them,” Browning said.

Browning’s friends, coworkers and former students attended a reception at the Decatur Community Building Thursday afternoon.

“Anytime somebody completes a career in something as notable as teaching, its commendable,” said Decatur superintendent Larry Ben. “The district is thankful to her for her years of service to the kids.”

Browning said she is looking forward to having more freedom to spend time with her family and friends.

“I’ve worked with a lot of wonderful people and I’ve been truly blessed,” she said.
