Lions caged by Hillbillies

Gravette unable to keep up with Ozark offense

— Only able to pick up a single touchdown in Ozark Hillbilly territory on Friday, the Lions came far short of bringing home a victory, falling 35-7 in the conference game.

The Hillbillies grabbed the lead in the first quarter with a touchdown and point after. The Lions roared briefly in the second quarter when Gravette junior Cody Robinson ran one into the Hillbilly endzone. Aside from the PAT on a kick by sophomore Cedric Duarte, the Lions put no more points on the board.

The Hillbillies, on the other hand, were far from finished. Not only did they add another 14 before the half was out, they crossed the goal line again twice in the third, with no answer from the Lions.

The Lions rushed only 97 yards, with Robinson picking up more than half of those yards. Chase Brody put the ball in the air 27 times, with 13 complete passes for 115 yards, and one interception.

Gravette senior Peyton Rose led the Lions in tackles with seven and another four assists. Tyler Kerley, a junior, also had 11 total, with four tackles and 7 assists. Rose also sacked the Hillbilly quarterback, handing Ozark a five yard loss on the play.

With Friday’s loss, the Lions are now 2-4 in the season. They travel to Farmington to take on a tough Cardinal team ina 4A Region 1 gridiron match on Friday. The Cardinals have a record of 5-1 and beat Berryville 40-0 last weekend.
