MAYSVILLE

I’m just filling in while Katherine is recovering from her illness.

The news was brought to my attention that Katherine Tucker is doing much better and is back home. Prayers are going up for Katherine for a speedy recovery.

Maysville has been saddened by the loss of three residents in the past few weeks.

Kay Marsh, a long-time resident of the Maysville community, passed away Oct. 7. Her services were Oct. 11 at the Maysville Missionary Baptist Church and final resting place is Falling Springs Cemetery. Kay touched many lives and will be missed. Prayers are extended for Riley, Karen and family and Donna and family.

Rance Glenn, son of Sharon Edmondson, passed away Oct. 7. Rance’s funeral service was Oct. 15 at Crosswired Cowboy Church in Grove, Okla., and burial at Thompson-Edmondson Family Cemetery. Rance will be greatly missed by many. Prayers go out for family and friends.

Archie Sperry passed away Oct. 12. Funeral service was Oct. 18 at the Maysville Bible Church. Archie will be missed by many family and friends. Prayers for the Sperry family.

Bobby Woods and family traveled to Tulsa, Okla., Saturday, Oct. 13, for funeral services for his sister Reba Talley.

On a brighter note, the Maysville Missionary Baptist Church celebrated its 100th birthday on Oct. 14 with special singing, sharing of memories and a slideshow, with dinner afterwards. The church was built in 1912. There were approximately100 in attendance and it was a day of great fun.

Carol Ann Walker has become the traveling woman in the past few weeks. The weekend of Oct. 12-14 Carol traveled to Walnut Ridge to see Hollyann. Hollyann is interning at Hoxie and will graduate with her teaching degree in December and be heading back to Maysville. While in Walnut Ridge, Carol Ann and Hollyann went to Jonesboro, where they shopped at the mall and hit some antique malls. Carol Ann informed me that on the trip back, the fall colors were just amazing through the Ozarks.

Karla Ballmann and Carol Ann Walker went to Siloam Springs one day last week. They enjoyed lunch at Cathy’s Corner and went to two flea markets while there. I’m sure there were lots of laughs, because that happens when cousins get together. Another day Carol Ann and Judy Bishop went to Gentry and ate at the Wooden Spoon. They enjoyed their time together and the food was great. While out and about, Carol Ann went to Highlands Rehab to visit with Katherine Tucker and check to see if she needed anything, praying that Katherine would be heading home soon. Carol Ann also went to check on Sue Scott, who has been in the hospital the past week. Please say a prayer for a fast recovery for Sue. God bless her.

Jan Janes hosts a ladies Bible study in her home on Tuesday evenings, starting at 7 p.m., and any lady who would be interested in attending should let her know. All are welcome. Jan and Faye Bohall traveled to Eureka Springs for a boat ride. Sure hope the weather cooperated.

The Maysville Handy Stop has changed to its winter hours, opening Monday - Friday 5 a.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. If you need a bite to eat and you are going through Maysville, stop in and pick up a sandwich or pizza for the road.

Jacob and Brittney Scott have been on several mission trips in the past few months. Aug. 29 to Sept. 8 they traveled to Armenia with Baptist Medical Missions International. Armenia is landlocked between Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran in the southernmost part of the (old) USSR Soviet Union. Average wages are 80 cents an hour. Teachers and other professionals make $250 a month. While there, they stayed in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, a city of about 1.2 million people, traveled out into different areas of Armenia each day and held medical clinics in churches of the Armenian Baptist Union, treating patients with anything from a sore throat to high blood pressure or giving them reading glasses. Jacob’s main role in the trip was counting medicines and checking patients in to be seen by doctors while Brittney worked with a translator and saw patients that needed glasses to make sure they received the correct strength. In all, they saw around 450 patients and held five different clinics. Jacob’s next mission trip is Oct. 27 to Nov. 7. He will be heading to Moldova with the Baptist Medical Missions International. Let’s all pray for safe travels for Jacob while he ministers to the people of Moldova.
