Pioneers come back for win over Bobcats

— After going to the locker room down 9-0 at half time, the Pioneers came out fighting in the second half and outplayed the Bobcats to bring home a 14-9 win on Friday.

Entering the second quarter in a scoreless game, Berryville struck first, picking up both a field goal and a touchdown but failing in the point-after attempt.

Stone Faulkenberry, sophomore quarterback,gave his Gentry teammates hope when he carried the ball 59 yards into the end zone. A two-point conversion put the Pioneers within a point of the Bobcats.

Jon Brown, another sophomore, gave the Pioneers the upper hand in the fourth quarter when he carried the ball 12 yards for the team’s second TD of the night at Berryville.

Brown picked up 62 yards on 11 carries for the Pioneers. Faulkenberry passed for 126 yards and carried the ball six times for a total of 65 yards.

Montana McFerron intercepted one Bobcat pass, returning it four yards.

The Pioneer defense held the Bobcats scoreless in the second half, making it possible for the Pioneers to seize the victory.

The Pioneers, with a 2-6 record, next travel to Prairie Grove to face a Tiger squad with a 7-0 record coming off a 31-0 league win over Pea Ridge on Friday.

The Bobcats (1-6) face the Gravette Lions (3-5) in a 4A game Friday. The Lions got by the Lincoln Wolves 6-0 on Friday.
