Fire causes minimal disruption

Oven fire at McKee quickly extinguished

— Gentry Fire Department responded to an oven fire at McKee Foods at approximately 3:30 p.m. Oct. 24, but the fire was quickly extinguished and no further damage resulted.

“The fire was confined to one appliance,” Gentry fire chief Vester Cripps said.

Using a ladder truck, fire department personnel checked the roof and areas around the flue exhaust pipes and found the fire had not spread.

In a release on Friday, McKee Foods said the corporation’s Gentry Plant experienced a smallfire which was isolated to an oven exhaust vent.

“There were no injuries or evacuations and the disruption to operations was minimal,” the release stated.

“The Gentry Volunteer Fire Department, Highfill Volunteer Fire Department, Decatur Volunteer Fire Department, Gentry Police Department and the Gentry Plant Fire Brigade responded to the incident,” the release stated.

“McKee Foods Corporation and the Gentry plant personnel wish to express our appreciation to the Gentry Police and local Fire Departments for their rapid response and professional assistance,” the release said.
